MORE THAN JUST FOOTBALL

A methodology focused on five key areas

Our Technical staff at the Real Madrid Foundation Football School has put together, leveraging their vast experience working with Fundación Real Madrid, a methodology focused on five key areas:
Physical, technical, tactical, psychological and Real Madrid Foundation values.

The Soccer Camps aim to improve the technical and tactical skills of young players using the methodology and philosophy developed and employed by the “Cantera” (Academy) of Real Madrid C.F.

PHYSICAL

Physical abilities in a collaborative-opposition sport are essential.

Football involves primarily these: speed, strength, flexibility and endurance.

Depending on the maturity of the players and where they are in their process of physical change, these abilities are worked through different training systems.

With younger children we work with an analytical system seeking a specific improvement outside a real match situation and ensuring they like and enjoy physical oriented exercises.

The physical development also allows players to acquire specific motor skills such as coordination, balance, imbalances, proprioceptive abilities or injury prevention.

TECHNIQUE

The role of the ball on the sessions is very important since a good technique allows the player to take advantage in game development.

Pass, control, dribbling, shooting, driving and head control are the key actions with the ball.

Technique needs to be worked from the early ages. From an analytical and individual work during the early stages, we gradually move on to more complex exercises engaging more players.

Each coach carefully assesses the technical condition of his/her players and conduct exercises which pose the appropriate level of challenge.

TACTICS

Position in the field and the relative position to the opponent are central to understand and develop football from a tactical perspective.

The tactical aspect breaks down into two: defensive tactic, when the player has not the ball, and offensive tactic when the team has the ball.

Defensive tactics will aim to prevent the progression of the opponent and try to recover the ball as soon as possible in order to transition from defence to attack. This tactic is more rigid and strict where players have more standardized and automated movements.

The offensive tactic aims to achieve the goal, in this case, the player has much more freedom, the creativity and decision-making player is encouraged. The movements are more unpredictable and the coach gives to the player “freedom with guidelines”.

PSYCHOLOGY

The psychological aspect is crucial. A positive and strong mindset allows the player to face the different game situations, such as loss, fatigue, victory or injuries.

Motivation, concentration, visualization, empathy or positivity are some of the psychological required capabilities. Anticipating that in a game situation not all outcomes are positive, the player must learn how to cope with those before facing a competitive situation.

High consideration should be given to the player’s surrounding environment and how it influences his/her behaviour. The family, school, friends or nutrition should be understood by the coach.

VALUES

The methodology of the Real Madrid Istanbul Academy is based on training in positive values through sport and the seven educational values used as a basis for teaching are:

respect, self-esteem, companionship, healthy lifestyle habits, autonomy, motivation and equality.

With the aim to provide a more complete education to our players, every month our coaches will focus on one specific value. By performing exercises during the warm-up part of the training session, the coach will look for situations where that value is likely to be required. The group will do a joint reflection at the end of the session.
